glieser/ 2025

“An origin story— A banished creature called 'the Glieser' treads the silver edges of a deserted wasteland stained by the wars of its past. This genetically tangled being—half human, half something else— drifts through space and encounters the fossilized remnants of a species it once belonged to, yet has never met. Driven by instinct, first light inspires desire. The earth cracks and pleasure seeps through its seams. As it unearths the archeology of the landscape, it proceeds to extract something it doesn’t understand. Doing so, it surrenders itself over, becomes the landscape itself, consumes the core, all in search of its own myth, its own immortal moon.”
‘Glieser’ is an anthropological study, a reworked auto-fictional dance theatre grounded in both Cypriot mythology and my experience growing up as a Queer artist in Cyprus. For the past 60 years, the north of Cyprus has been under illegal occupation. My cultural heritage has been lost in time through centuries of colonization and a lack of access to the archeological sites due to the ongoing occupation. This work untangles my ancestral history from its colonial knots and, through a Queer lens, reimagines the ancient practices and cosmologies lost.
